Ben,
Hope you don't mind...a non master give his opinion as well...
I think the pattern should be workable but tie some in pink as well.
I understand that one of the successful colours is pink.
Try check out this link as well... http://www.flyfisherman.com/ftb/dbfpf/index.html

Here's what I tied. Tandem hooks (Front size 4/0, back size 1)
What's your opinion ? Too big or Too small? How about colours?
Wah... very beautiful..... it will work....
Just one comment if you don't mind.... the tandem hook should be further.... a bit more... your tandem hook is a bit too close I think.... |

Bro...one comment on the tandem hook rig... the hook behind should be pointing up... instead of both hooks point down... like this...

I got the image from this link on how to build up a tandem hook rig... http://www.lyndenhuggins.com/flyfishing/howto/tandemhookrig/tandemhookrig.htm
Hope this helps all those interested in how to build it.

hmmmm.... Hook pointing upwards... Thats a good idea.
Btw, how long should the fly be? I tied an 8 inch fly today. Maybe tomorrow I'll tie one a foot long.
Also, spoke to poison nick just now and he told me that he found it very difficult to set the hook on the sails coz they kept playing with his fly and wouldnt turn and run so he couldnt set the hook at all. Any ideas how to overcome this? I was thinking of carrying some batu to throw at the sails to scare them so that they would turn away from the boat. Any opinions?

Nick went with the same boatman I went with the last time. This boatman, Steven Chong...I have to salute... he work darn hard... other boatman wouldn't give a damn...stand on the roof and popping all day long to tease and bring the sails closer to the boat for us to cast to .
Unfortunately, this method not very succesful...it was extremely successful in teasing the sails close but success with hookup rate with the fly was VERY bad.
IMO, this has to do with the fact that we are casting at sailfish that is charging very fast at a stationary boat... firstly, when we cast, we cannot strip fast enough to match the speed of the charging sailfish, secondly, the sailfish will strike at the fly with it's bill first, and not swallow right away. That's why it will not turn and run with the fly.
The method that has proven successful for Costa Rica sailfish, tease them closer by trolling with teasers. When sailfish rise, remove teasers and leave hookless strip bait in the water. Boat still moving, keeping pace with the sailfish. Tease fish with strip bait until fish is in frenzy...let it eat, then pull out from its mouth. Then angler get ready to cast the fly. When angler is ready, hookless strip bait is pulled out suddenly from the water and angler casts fly at sailfish. If all works fine, the fish will be in such a frenzy, it will just whack the fly and turn and run. Angler just hold on and strip strike. Hence ensuring a more solid hookup.
Theory terror, but how to put in practical use? Let us try!!!
